Behind their smiles is a story of resilience, where they got displaced from their canteen stall at a primary school overnight. Despite that, they stayed strong and managed to find a new canteen stall and are now serving happy students daily!

Defying all Odds, an Artisan who presses on

Meet Auntie Lai, a true artisan who hand makes all her desserts ranging from Chng Teng to Tau Huey!

Auntie Lai is a dedicated mother of 2 daughters. While she now has her loyal supporters and fans supporting her, things were not that easy back then.

Auntie Lai moved over to Singapore in 2004, where she struggled to find jobs and was a home-maker. In 2010, while taking her daughter out for a stroll in the market, she saw an opportunity to take over a stall. She was resolute on starting her own traditional desserts stall.

Without any experience, many people laughed and doubted her. But Auntie Lai still stayed positive, and surely, she proved them wrong. In just 3 months, Auntie Lai saw great traction and many frequent customers.

However, a fire broke out in the market, causing her stall to be closed for 2 years. Ever since then, with the exception of some loyal customers, business has never been the same.

Despite that, Auntie Lai is an individual who presses on, taking pride in her traditional desserts.
